A detailed description of the functions in the meizu u10 phone. Meizu U10 - Specifications. Who is a smartphone for?

Representing the premium appearance of a budget filling, this 5-inch smartphone is designed for those who prefer the strength of an all-metal body to the elegance of glass. Vesti.Hi-tech studied Meizu U10 and share their impressions.

For many users, the "correctly" chosen case material often turns out to be much more important than the technical characteristics of a smartphone. It is not surprising that many manufacturers, having forgotten about plastic, began to “dress” their budget models exclusively in glass and metal, which until recently were considered the prerogative of flagship devices. Recently, we have already familiarized ourselves in detail with the smartphone (our review), which replaced the best-selling (under the Meizu brand) in 2015, the M2 mini device. At the same time, it turned out to be no longer in a plastic, but in a metal case. And here is the next incarnation - the U10 smartphone, where they used almost the same filling, closed on both sides with impact-resistant glass with a 2.5D effect. Note that the device variants with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage have 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM, respectively. We tested the U10 with a combination of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

Design, ergonomics

The main emphasis in U10 was made on a different case design, which is a kind of glass-metal sandwich in the spirit of the iPhone 4, with front and rear panels covered with protective glass with a 2.5D effect,

and metal frame with shiny bevels. Recall that aviation aluminum-magnesium alloy was chosen as the main material, taking care of inserts made of radio-transparent plastic for antennas. The overall dimensions of the U10 in terms of, compared to its metal predecessor, have not changed - 141.9x69.9 mm, however, the thickness has slightly decreased (7.9 mm versus 8.3 mm), but the weight has increased by one gram - 139 g vs. 138g. The U10's body appears more angular, while retaining the previous colors of taupe, gold, silver and rose gold.

We got a device in a golden, catchy color for the test. It is worth recalling that fingerprints are readily collected on glass panels, so a smartphone with such a coating quickly becomes untidy. A white (silver) color device, on the surface of which prints are less noticeable, gets more chances to maintain an unsullied "reputation".

As already noted, the entire front surface of the U10 is protected by glass (the manufacturer is not specified), which smoothly flows down the edges (2.5D effect).

The decorative grille of the "conversational" speaker, like the one, turned out to be above the screen, surrounded by the front camera (left), as well as light and proximity sensors (right). That's just invisible in the off state, the LED indicator is now to the left of the front camera.

Under the screen, traditionally for Meizu, there is a mechanical mBack key with a built-in capacitive fingerprint scanner mTouch 2.1.

As you know, in addition to fingerprint recognition, its capacitive surface emulates the control panel. Recall what we are talking about: a normal touch (tap) activates the "Back" function, a short press with a hardware "click" returns to the main screen ("Home"), and the same long press turns off the display backlight. The "Recent apps" button is replaced by a swipe up from the bottom edge of the display.

On the right edge, they brought together the volume rocker and the power / lock button, which were placed in a small groove.

A closed slot with a dual tray is located on the left edge of the case. A thin paper clip is useful as a master key for the lock. The tray houses two nanoSIM subscriber identification modules, and the place of the second one can be taken by a microSD memory expansion card.

The upper end of the U10 is empty.

But the 3.5 mm audio headset connector (CTIA) moved to the bottom end, where they also assembled a hole for a "conversational" microphone, a microUSB connector for charging / synchronization, as well as a decorative grille (four round holes) "multimedia" speaker.

The back panel, covered with glass flowing down the edges (2.5D effect), is decorated with the Meizu logo, just above which there is a place for the main camera lens and a 2-tone LED flash. Only now, unlike, they have been shifted to the left and placed in one row.

You can find out the company name and country of manufacture of this LTE smartphone from the inscription at the bottom of the panel.

The dimensions of the new smartphone with a 5-inch screen make it quite comfortable to handle it with one hand. However, due to the glass coating, the U10 body glides not only in the palm of your hand, but also on a flat surface. Special attention should be paid to this when using this machine.

Screen, camera, sound

The published specifications for the U10 screens are the same, so with a high degree of probability it can be argued that this component of the smartphone has remained unchanged. Indeed, a 5-inch IPS-matrix with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio at HD resolution (1280x720 pixels) has a pixel density per inch of 294 ppi. GFF (Glass-to-Film-to-Film) full lamination technology, a budget option for OGS, eliminates the air gap between the layers of the display, which serves as the basis for good anti-glare properties and reduces the reflection effect.

The passport data also indicates the screen contrast (1000:1) and maximum brightness (380 cd/sq.m). At the same time, the backlight level in U10 is advised to be adjusted manually or automatically ("Auto-adjust" option). The multi-touch technology allows to recognize at least five simultaneous taps on the capacitive screen, which is confirmed by the results of the AntTuTu Tester program. The settings also have the ability to change the color temperature, where the colors are proposed to be made warmer, or vice versa, colder. For the display, they attended to quite a high-quality oleophobic coating.

In turn, the front cameras have a 5-megapixel sensor equipped with a wide-angle 4-lens lens with f / 2.0 aperture. But autofocus and flash are missing. The maximum image size in the classical aspect ratio (4:3) is 2560x1920 pixels (5 MP).

Both cameras retained the ability to record video in Full HD quality (1920x1080 pixels) at a frame rate of 30 fps, while all content is stored in MP4 container files (AVC - video, AAC - sound).

As for the shooting modes, along with "Auto", "Manual", "Video", "Portrait", "Panorama", "Focus change" and "Slow motion" (resolution 640x480 pixels, up to 60 minutes) and "GIF " (up to 6 minutes of animation), added "Macro" and "Scanner", which were not in . In the settings of the "Camera" application, you can still activate HDR, and, in addition, decide on the size of the photo and video quality. Shooting in manual mode allows you to adjust shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, saturation, white balance, etc. To separately measure focus and exposure, you must enable the corresponding option. To create various effects on the image, as before, several filters will help, including Black and White, Oxidized, Film, etc. Switching the viewfinder from the main camera to the front camera and vice versa is convenient with vertical swipes (it doesn’t matter if it’s from bottom to top or top to bottom). But the volume rocker (both increase and decrease) is also proposed to be used to release the shutter.

The "multimedia" speaker U10, located, like the one, on the bottom end of the case, sounds quite budgetary. Regular means of this smartphone allow you to listen to recordings without loss of quality from FLAC and APE files. After connecting the audio headset, it is proposed to use a 5-band equalizer with presets and manual settings. The Voice Recorder application makes it easy to record monophonic conversations (44.1 kHz) that are saved as MP3 files. The U10 does not have a built-in FM tuner, which is quite common for Meizu smartphones.

Stuffing, performance

Both smartphones, U10 and , are based on the same budget platform - Mediatek MT6750.

It is based on an 8-core processor with two quartets of ARM Cortex-A53 cores, one of which operates at a clock frequency of up to 1.5 GHz, and the other - up to 1.0 GHz. A dedicated accelerator with two execution units ARM Mali-T860 MP2 (520 MHz) that supports OpenGL ES 3.1, OpenCL 1.2 and DirectX 11.1 is responsible for graphics processing. In addition, the MT6750 chip includes a MT6176 (4G LTE Cat.6) modem, and also works with displays up to 1280x720 pixels and 16-megapixel cameras. The basic configuration of the U10 is supplemented with two or three gigabytes of LPDDR3 (666 MHz) RAM, which is controlled by a single-channel controller. Recall that for the test we got a device with a combination of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

Having received the same processor as that of , on the synthetic tests of AnTuTu Benchmark, the new smartphone scored about the same number of "virtual trophies" (37-38 thousand).

A similar picture is observed when assessing the amount of "horsepower" and the efficiency of using processor cores (Geekbench 4).

The low screen resolution made it possible to achieve a good frame rate on all settings (High Performance, High Quality and Ultra High Quality) on the Epic Citadel visual test - 54.2 fps, 54.0 fps and 45.8 fps, respectively.

On the 3DMark universal gaming benchmark, where the novelty was tested on the recommended Sling Shot kit (ES 3.1), a result of 302 points that did not inspire gamers was recorded.

The total number of points collected by the smartphone on the BaseMark OS II cross-platform benchmark was 223.

After turning on the U10, out of 16 GB of internal memory, about 9.6 GB was free. As in, to expand the available storage, the installation of a microSD / HC / XC memory card with a maximum capacity of up to 128 GB is provided here. It should be noted that the dual tray where the memory card is inserted is universal, and, having taken one place in it, you will have to sacrifice the installation of a second SIM card (both nanoSIM formats). Support for USB-OTG technology allows you to expand the built-in storage of both smartphones in a different way by connecting a regular flash drive.

The U10 wireless communications suite includes 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 (LE).

One radio channel limits the simultaneous operation of two nanoSIM cards (4FF form factor) to the Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) mode. Unlike in the U10 settings, there is no option for VoLTE technology ("voice over LTE"). The subscriber identity module for data transmission (by default it takes the first place in the tray), as well as the priority network mode (by default 4G), is selected in the corresponding menu. Traditionally, only two "Russian" FDD-LTE bands are available for Meizu smartphones - b3 (1,800 MHz) and b7 (2,600 MHz), and the lowest frequency b20 (800 MHz) is ignored.

GPS and GLONASS constellation satellites can be used for positioning and navigation. This is confirmed by the results of the AndroiTS GPS Test and GPS Test programs. Among other things, A-GPS technology is also supported.

The capacity of the battery that was equipped with U10 (2760 mAh), compared with (3020 mAh), decreased by 260 mAh. The reason for this may be the more elegant body of the new smartphone, the thickness of which has decreased by 0.4 mm. When the battery is filled to 100% of the standard adapter (5V/2A), it will take about 1.5 hours.

With a score of 7236 points (against 7657 points for ), the AnTuTu Tester battery test was completed. A set of MP4 videos (hardware decoded) and HD quality at full brightness played continuously for more than 6.5 hours.

In the "Power Management" section, depending on the load, it is advised to transfer the smartphone from the "Balanced" mode to the "Energy Saving" or "Productive" mode. In addition, in the "Power optimization" section, it is proposed not only to manage the sleep mode of applications, but also to use flexible settings to save battery power - "Smart", "Super" and "Custom".

Software Features

The U10 smartphone runs on the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system, the interface of which is replaced by the proprietary Flyme OS 5.2.3.0G shell. Recall that among the shortcomings was not the latest version of the Android OS (5.1).

The Flyme launcher features allow you to split the U10's screen to display two applications at the same time, in particular, "Settings", "Video" and "Maps".

The parameters of the mTouch 2.1 fingerprint scanner in the U10 have not changed either. He still knows how to recognize the owner's finger at almost any angle (360 degrees), while the response speed does not exceed 0.2 seconds. It is recommended to use up to five registered fingerprints not only to unlock your smartphone, but also to securely access files and applications.

Purchase, conclusions

So, the main difference between the U10 and the U10 smartphone is its double-sided glazed case, which, moreover, looks more impressive on the outside. But the basic filling of the new device has not changed much, while a fast fingerprint scanner has remained in place. In addition, a small change in the capacity of the non-removable battery had practically no effect on the autonomy of the novelty.

On the other hand, the impressive glass case turns out to be not only easily soiled in use, but also quite slippery, which increases the risk of accidental damage to the device. In addition, U10 inherited other "sores" when, with a mandatory choice between a second nanoSIM card and memory expansion, the 800 MHz LTE band is still "overboard".

However, a rather attractive price remained unchanged, which for the U10 with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, at the time of testing, was 12,990 rubles, and for the 3 GB / 32 GB option - 14,990 rubles. Exactly a thousand cheaper are in similar configurations. Such a difference in price, obviously, is considered quite justified. After all, "beauty is a terrible force."

The results of the review of the smartphone Meizu U10

Pros:

  • "Glass" design
  • Good autonomy
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Attractive price

Minuses:

  • Slippery and easily soiled case
  • Choice between installing a second SIM card and expanding the memory
  • No support for LTE b20 frequency band (800 MHz)

The outgoing summer of 2016 brightened up the event by presenting the latest line of U10 and U20 smartphones.

The U10 smartphone is a smaller version of the U20. If you pay attention to the characteristics, they are very similar to those of the Meizu M3S smartphone.

It even seemed to many that nothing new was added to the new smartphone.

The main feature of this smartphone is the glass case.

Manufacturers promise that due to this case (made of glass and metal), the smartphone will be reliable and durable.

According to the company, the brand new design of this line is an experiment.

Well, the main advantage of this smartphone is its price. Manufacturers are asking for this unique smartphone:
12990 rubles - 16 GB;
14990 rubles - 32 GB.

Meizu U10 design

Indication of the main parameters of the device and identification numbers, as well as contact information for the local service, which is located on the sticker.

All this is done on a standard sticker, it is located on the back of the box.

Opening the box, we immediately see the device itself, it is located inside the box and is protected from damage by films.

All internal contents of the package are divided into two parts, the contents of each of them can be identified by the corresponding icon (it is located on the lid of the box).

The delivery set has not changed in composition and does not contain any additional accessories. Headphones are not included.

Box contents:

  • Power adapter
  • Paperclip (for removing the SIM tray)
  • Instructions for use
  • USB - micro USB cable.

The appearance of the smartphone has not undergone global changes compared to previous models of the company.

The outline remains the same, but note that the stripes that were on the back of the smartphone have disappeared, and a camera has appeared in the upper corner.

The combination of a glass case with 2.5D glass looks elegant, it is slightly curved at the edges.

This glass is very scratch resistant.

It is thanks to the oleophobic coating that the surface remains smooth, and when your fingers touch it, it glides easily.

The frame (located along the edge) and the base of the smartphone are made of aluminum.

The disadvantage of this model is the instability in the hands and the easily soiled surface (this factor is especially pronounced in black).

The following colors are available for sale:

  • Black
  • White
  • Gold
  • Pink

The back panel will look mirrored and glossy, regardless of the chosen color of the smartphone.

The elements have not changed their location. On the left is a built-in slot for a SIM card and a Micro SD drive, and on the right is a volume and on / off button.

Below is the Micro USB connector, speaker and microphone.

There are no touch buttons for navigation on this device.

There is a universal mTouch 2.1 button (it is located under the screen), this button is two in one, since it is a mechanical and touch device in a smartphone.

Smartphone dimensions: 141.9 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm, weight (according to unofficial data) is about 140 grams.

For security, a scanner is built in that determines the fingerprint of the owner of the smartphone (the maximum number of memorizations is 5 fingerprints, the recognition angle is 360 degrees).

It is the scanner that will help block and restrict access to the phone and several applications.

Autonomous operation of the device

This smartphone model has eight cores, which is quite good for such a price. Device cores (Cortex - A53) divided into two clusters:

  • Only four operate at 1.5 GHz.
  • With a frequency of 1 GHz, the other four are limited.

Based on this, when performing heavy tasks, all eight cores of the device are involved: the power of the smartphone increases, and sits down faster.

If you read notifications and make phone calls, then the power consumed by the smartphone is reduced, and the battery lasts longer.

Due to this distribution of power, the battery (its capacity is 2760 mAh) is enough for a day without being connected to a power outlet.

But this is with maximum battery savings. In order to extend the time of using a smartphone, it is advised:

  1. Use minimum brightness.
  2. Try not to use games that consume a lot of energy.
  3. Switch off network modules that you do not use.
  4. Run your device in power saving mode.

We did the AnTuTu test and got the following results: from 30 to 41 thousand points. Games work without glitches.

Memory

The smartphone is available in two types:

  • 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM
  • 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM.

If we talk about operational, then the best work in games will show the option with 3 gigabytes. Well, for other tasks there is much more free memory.

For those users who are not particularly fond of games, we recommend the 2 GB version, since it does not differ much from the 3 GB version, this is quite enough.

As for the built-in storage. If the user wants to save the budget and only one SIM is enough for him, then the option with 16 gigabytes is suitable for him.

However, if the buyer needs additional memory, then the 32 GB option will suit him.

It happens that after the purchase, the user does not have enough free space on the device, in which case the memory can be easily increased (up to 128 gigabytes) using.

Camera

The smartphone's camera is equipped with a 13-megapixel photo module, which consists of five lenses.

A two-tone flash is responsible for the quality of photos taken at night and the natural color of the photos.

Older models used contrast autofocus, while newer models use phase detection autofocus, which is faster and allows you to take a picture in motion.

The main device allows you to support video shooting in Full HD (1080 p), such a video can be viewed on a huge screen without stretching.

In the daytime, videos are recorded at a frame rate of 30 fps, if the lighting is not good enough, the frame rate drops to 20 fps.

Also in the Meizu phone there is slow motion and many other modes (modes for shooting portraits, macro - shooting, panoramic, etc.).

The front camera of the smartphone is equipped with 5 megapixels.

Lots of different photo editing filters. Also, the smartphone has the ability to create (GIF - files).

Here are some pictures:

Display

Screen resolution - HD (1280 x720 pixels).

The screen diagonal is 5 inches, if before this smartphone you used the screen more, then at first it will be unusual, the pixel density is 266 PPI.

The picture is bright and lively. The screen matrix - thanks to it the colors remain saturated and colorful, both on a sunny day and in the dark.

It is pleasant to look at the screen, your eyes do not get tired, you can also adjust the color temperature and screen brightness (maximum screen brightness is 397 cd / m²).

The screen is covered with oleophobic.

Grease marks and fingerprints on the screen can be easily removed by simply wiping the screen with a tissue or other soft cloth.

In the cold, smartphones often fail, which cannot be said about the Meizu U10 32 GB, since its sensor is sensitive and responds well.

Meizu U10 Features

It is possible to install two NANO - SIM. Both operate on 2G, 3G and 4G networks. The smartphone is equipped with:

  • Bluetooth 4.0 BLE (low power consumption).
  • Wireless Wi - Fi, it operates in the range of 2.4 or 5 GHz.

The GPS system is responsible for the operation of satellite navigation.

The smartphone catches the network well, the data transfer rate depends on the place, time and telecom operator.

Sound

Everyone is used to the speakers of Chinese phones from Meizu.

This unit has a cheap loudspeaker. The quality of the speaker corresponds to the price.

You won’t be able to use this smartphone as speakers at a party, the volume of this model is only enough for an alarm clock and quiet notifications.

For high-quality sound, when listening to music, you need to use good headphones.

At the end of the summer of 2016, Meizu introduced its new line of smartphones, represented by U10 and. These are inexpensive devices, with hardware familiar to their price category. Their main feature is an attractive design, with a glossy metal and glass body. This review will talk aboutMeizu U10, which has a smaller display (and therefore dimensions), and at the same time is cheaper.

For a configuration with 2/16 GB of memory, they ask from 148 USD, and from 167 USD for the variant with 3/32 GB. Prices shown are approximate and current at the time of writing this review. It remains to be seen what a sub-$200 Meizu smartphone is.

Specifications are almost completely identical.

Appearance, connectors, buttons and sensors

Meizu U10 received a completely rethought design. Yes, before the smartphones of this manufacturer also looked good, but now it's a completely different level. The front and back panels are completely covered with rounded 2.5D glass.

It is scratch resistant and coated with an oleophobic layer that makes it easy for fingers to glide over its surface.

The metal frames are now rectangular in shape, with embossed bevelled edges that emphasize the nature of the material.

Case colors are available: black, white, gold, and pink. Regardless of the color, the panel will be mirrored and glossy. In black, the device looks simply gorgeous. True, exactly as long as you do not touch it. Even after a short use, the body is scary to look at because of the many prints and greasy spots.

The oleophobic layer simply cannot cope with them. I am glad that on a panel of a different color (white, for example), such disgrace is almost invisible.

The layout of the elements is quite familiar, not counting the 3.5 mm jack. The tray for installing SIM cards and a MicroSD drive is located on the left side, while the power and volume buttons are located on the right. The top edge is empty, but on the bottom there is a MicroUSB connector with OTG support, a standard audio jack, holes for the main speaker and a microphone.

There are no familiar touch buttons for navigation either on the panel or on the screen. Instead, a universal mTouch 2.1 button is installed under the screen, touch and mechanical at the same time. Used to navigate the OS interface, has a built-in fingerprint scanner. It remembers up to 5 fingerprints, the recognition angle reaches 360 degrees. The sensor is not as fast as the flagships, but the response speed and accuracy are more than satisfactory. Product dimensions: 141.9 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm, its weight is 139 g.

CPU

The smartphone is equipped with an 8-core entry-level processor MediaTek 6750, with ARM big.LITTLE architecture. Cortex-A53 cores are divided into 2 clusters: 4 of them operate at 1.5 GHz, and the remaining 4 are limited to 1 GHz. The role of the graphics accelerator is performed by the Mali-T860 chip. Antutu synthetic test results: from 31 to 40 thousand points. In this example, the indicators depend on the firmware version, and on the amount of RAM.

In practice, the smartphone confidently copes with trivial tasks. Of course, you can load the device and make you think. But for a device of this price category, this is quite normal. Any resource-intensive 3D games are launched, although not always at the maximum graphics level. Under intensive loads, problems with excessive heating of the case are not observed.

Memory

The smartphone comes in two configurations: 2 or 3 GB of RAM, and 16 or 32 GB of ROM. In terms of RAM, the 3GB RAM version will show slightly better gaming performance. And for multitasking, there will be a little more free memory. That is, you can safely use the 2 GB version, the level of its performance for the eyes is enough for not particularly demanding users.

With the built-in drive, things are as follows. If you need a lot of free space, and you plan to use two SIMs, you will have to take a configuration with 32 GB. If you want to save some money and you can do without an additional SIM card, the 16 GB option will obviously work. In this case, the space can easily be expanded up to 128 GB using an external microSD drive.

Offline work

At the beginning of the review, it was mentioned about the striking similarity between the insides of U10 and M3s. So, the battery is an exception: from 3020 mAh, the capacity has dropped to 2760 mAh. The only logical explanation for such a downgrade can be considered an attempt by the manufacturer to influence the dimensions. As a result, the case thickness of the U10 is 7.9 mm versus 8.3 mm for the M3s.

With average usage, the battery lasts 1 day. In order to achieve work throughout the day with the same mode of operation, you will have to learn how to save. For example, do not run games, reduce brightness, disable unused network modules, use advanced power saving mode.

Camera

The smartphone uses a 13-megapixel photomodule, consisting of 5 lenses. It is complemented by a two-tone flash, and a fast phase PDAF autofocus. The aperture value is F/2.2. The camera interface is simple and concise, but contains a lot of features. There are separate modes for shooting portraits, macro, panoramas, there is a built-in QR scanner and much more I describe in the video below. It is worth noting the presence of manual settings for self-selection of exposure values, ISO and other things.

Daytime shots will please with sufficiently high detail, good color reproduction, good frame sharpness. Here are some pictures:

The smartphone can create "gifs" (GIF files), an example of which you see below.

Selfie camera shot:

The maximum video recording resolution is FullHD. During the day, videos are written at 30 fps, in conditions of lack of lighting, the figure drops to 20 fps. Slow motion is supported. The front camera is a 5-megapixel module with F / 2.0 aperture. Programmatically, a bunch of various filters were stuffed into the camera. And all for the sake of obtaining the effect of smooth skin. 1080p video recording is supported.

Display

The smartphone has a 5-inch IPS screen. Image resolution - 1280 x 720 pixels, pixel density is 296 PPI. The image is smooth and beautiful, the colors are pleasant, you can adjust the color temperature yourself. The maximum brightness of the screen is not prohibitive (397 cd / m²), but quite sufficient. The GFF full lamination technology is used: the image is contrasting, and the touch layer clearly fulfills all touches.

The display is covered with a protective 2.5D glass with good oleophobic abilities.

Networking

Two Nano-SIM cards can be installed in the combo slot. And both can work in 2G, 3G and 4G networks. The device is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 BLE with low energy consumption, as well as a wireless Wi-Fi module capable of operating in the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands. Satellite navigation can be provided by GPS geopositioning systems with A-GPS support, and. Navigation works as expected, however, like all other network communications.

Sound

The main speaker in inexpensive Meizu smartphones is often criticized for mediocre sound quality. And this is despite the fact that there are not so many people left listening to music through speakers. The most common budget loudspeaker is installed here. The volume is enough to hear the alarm, notifications or calls. And to listen to music, you need to use good headphones. Then the sound quality will be appropriate.

Software part

Meizu U10, which are sold in the domestic market of China, come with the YunOS operating system. At the time of writing this review, the first global multilingual firmware Flyme 5.2.3.0G, based on Android 6.0, already exists. As a rule, sellers and stores install global firmware before the device falls into our hands. Moreover, self-flashing is not a problem for advanced users.

The Flyme shell, in addition to the standard Android functionality, has its own interface and advanced settings. It differs by the absence of a menu button (all icons are located on desktops). In most cases software from Meizu works quite stably. In addition, Flyme is constantly being developed and updated as new software versions become available.

Individual characteristics

Meizu is the first in the mid-budget segment to use such a combination of design, case materials and assembly.

Who is a smartphone for?

Meizu U10 is a good choice for people who, with a budget of no more than 170 USD, expect to get the most beautiful 5-inch smartphone. In addition to design, the list of criteria can include stable operation of the device, fresh and functional software, decent daytime shots, sufficient performance and a good display.

Our review of the Meizu U10 smartphone

The release of Meizu U10 (and U20) is a kind of experiment of the company: to take a ready-made successful stuffing and place it in a premium case. Those who follow the news are indignant, they say, “ay-yay-yay, Meizu, it’s not good to do this.” But what's wrong with such a solution? Previously, a beautiful, high-quality design was the prerogative of only fashion and flagship models. But not everyone was ready to give their hard-earned money for an expensive and brilliant high-tech toy. Manufacturers have understood this, so now even state employees cheaper than $ 100 can look very decent. And this tactic works.

The Chinese company Meizu has released a lot of pretty good smartphones. Users speak about them mostly positively. Of course, there are some disadvantages, but they fully pay off with low cost. In 2016, a new model was released under this brand - Meizu U10. We will consider reviews about it a little later. Her debut did not go unnoticed. The main advantage of this line of gadgets is a modern attractive design. The manufacturer prefers to select high-quality materials for the case, which, no doubt, is in consumer demand. Naturally, cost plays an important role. The novelty appeared on sale in two modifications. The option with two gigabytes of "RAM" and sixteen native memory is approximately $150. The older version (3/32 GB) will cost $17-20 more. What opportunities will open up for the owners of this model? Aren't users disappointed in another novelty made in China? The answers to these questions can be found in this review.

Appearance

We note right away that the Meizu U10 32Gb smartphone - Gold, Silver, Black - received a lot of positive feedback due to its modern design. It is the external design of gadgets that is a kind of "chip" of the manufacturer. According to most users, this model was able to reach a new level. The case is made of metal, which harmoniously combines with glass. A chrome-plated frame runs along the perimeter. It gives the smartphone a special appeal and elegance.

It is worth noting that not only the front panel is decorated with 2.5D glass with rounded edges, but also the back cover. The properties of this material are quite consistent with high requirements. In their comments, buyers pay attention to the fact that even with insufficiently careful interaction with the phone, scratches do not form on the surface. An indisputable plus is that the manufacturer used an oleophobic coating. Thanks to him, the finger glides easily over the surface, prints from it remain, but in a small amount, while they are easily erased.

The frame itself, which runs along the perimeter, is not rounded, but rectangular in shape. On this issue, users could not reach a consensus, as some consider this solution to be quite acceptable, while others consider it outdated, preferring rounded side ends. But it is not all that bad. In order to make the design look quite strong, the manufacturer has slightly complicated the shape of this frame, giving it embossed beveled edges. Thanks to this decision, it was possible to emphasize the peculiarity of the material used.

Choosing the color scheme of a smartphone for each person will not be a problem. The line has several options. For example, for men who prefer the classics, the Meizu U10 16Gb Black smartphone is ideal. Reviews about this instance prove that it looks quite impressive and stylish. Of course, some shortcomings are still visible. We are talking about the accumulation of oily spots on the surface. Unfortunately, it does not fully protect against them. The only solution to this problem is to constantly wipe the surface. But such an unpleasant moment applies only to the black version. On phones with a light body, these spots are almost invisible, so many people prefer to buy Meizu U10 16Gb Silver. Reviews on this topic are often found on the forums. Users came to an unequivocal opinion: if the buyer does not care about color, then it is better to choose a model with a light body, since grease spots and fingerprints are practically invisible on it.

What can be said about the dimensions of this device? In principle, they are quite expected, as for a smartphone with a 5-inch screen. Its mass is small - only 139 g. Laudatory reviews are also heard about the thickness. This phone may well be called narrow. According to most users, the developers have chosen the optimal thickness indicator, which is 7.9 mm. Other dimensions did not cause any comments. The height of 141.9 mm is in harmony with the width of 69.6 mm.

As can be seen from the above, users do not have a pronounced negative for the design. Of course, there are several unpleasant moments (fingerprints remain in the black copy), but they are not quite critical for everyone.

Controls and connectors

Let's consider the location of the controls using the example of Meizu U10 16GB Black. Feedback from connoisseurs of this brand confirms that they are all brought to their usual place. The only difference was the connector for audio devices. For some reason, the developers brought it not to the upper end, as many are already accustomed to, but to the lower one. It is, of course, difficult to judge the convenience of such an arrangement. But it's easy to get used to.

So, let's look at what is on the side faces. On the left side of the case, the manufacturer installed a SIM card tray. It can also be used to install external drives format micro-SD. The opposite side face is occupied by an elongated volume button and a power button. The latter performs the function of blocking the device.

The bottom end is multifunctional. There was a place to remove the main speaker. It consists of 4 small round holes. In the center of the end is a USB port that supports the OTG format. As mentioned above, on the right side there is an audio jack and a hole for a microphone.

Many comments about this smartphone model are addressed to the control panel. The manufacturer decided to completely abandon the touch navigation buttons, replacing them with one universal mTouch 2.1. It is multifunctional, it is both mechanical and sensory at the same time. Designed to control the gadget - navigation in the interface of the operating system. The developers also built a fingerprint scanner into it. It stores up to 5 prints in its memory. The recognition angle is 360 degrees. It works, although not very fast, but users have no comments on the speed and accuracy of operation.

Hardware platform and reviews

Finding a MediaTek processor on a new product in 2016, users were not surprised. These chipsets are often used in gadgets of this level. That is why a certain opinion about their capabilities has long been formed. Of course, they can hardly compete with the original devices from Apple, but they are also able to show good results.

This model is based on a processor, which is based on 8 computing modules. The type of each one is Cortex-A53. They operate on a 4×4 system. The first half is capable of delivering a maximum frequency of up to 1500 MHz, but the second is limited to 1000 MHz.

In order for the device to work with graphic images, a video card is installed in tandem with the main processor. In this model, the choice fell on the Mali-T860 accelerator. It is worth noting that he copes quite well with all the tasks.

Now consider what reviews this gadget received in terms of performance. In the comments, users say that in practice the phone copes with all everyday tasks. Of course, there are situations when the device freezes a little, but this is only when the owners set several actions at once. This cannot be considered a critical drawback, since in this price category all devices without exception show such results. Players will be pleased with the U10 model. It is able to open even "heavy" 3D games. The only thing you may have to sacrifice is the maximum level of graphics. Also, users noticed that even with prolonged heavy load, the case does not heat up very much.

Memory

What modifications did the manufacturer present to customers? In total, there are two versions in the line. They differ from each other in the amount of RAM and built-in memory. Let's take a look at the Meizu U10 16GB Gold first. Reviews about this modification are somewhat different. There are several reasons for this. The first thing to notice is that the amount of RAM is only 2 gigabytes. In the comments, people say that in fact no more than half will be available. Also, the amount of internal memory is not large, it is only 16 GB. For a modern user who prefers to use a smartphone to the maximum, such volumes will not be enough. If you shoot a lot of videos, take photos, install various software, you will definitely have to use an external drive, since the manufacturer has provided support for memory cards up to 128 GB.

However, in this case, users should be aware that they will have to sacrifice one SIM card, since the developers have combined their sockets in one tray. It is for this reason that many people advise Meizu U10 32Gb in reviews. According to most, this model is optimal for multitasking. First of all, it has 3 GB of "RAM". Naturally, this indicator is much better than in the previous modification. This is especially noticeable during games. Accordingly, the size of the integrated memory in this version is 32 GB. Advanced users are recommended to buy just such a modification, because its advantages are obvious.

autonomy

According to the criterion of autonomy, Meizu U10 32Gb receives not the best reviews. The fact is that this model has a striking resemblance to the hardware of the M3s device. However, for some reason, the manufacturer reduced the battery capacity by almost 300 milliamps per hour. It was this decision that caused the most indignation of the owners. Buyers are already accustomed to the fact that new items come out with higher rates, so reducing the battery life to 2760 mAh was definitely a disappointment. The only explanation that advanced users could give is that the developers tried to reduce the thickness of the phone.

What results does this gadget show? The owners assure that with an average load, you can safely count on 24 hours of operation. The only thing that will have to be completely abandoned for such a period of work is to reduce the brightness level, not to play, and not to activate network modules. If you use one of the above, then the life of the gadget will be significantly reduced. The advantages include the presence of energy-saving modes.

about cameras

It has become commonplace that manufacturers use two cameras in modern smartphones. In most cases, for the main one, which is located on the back, a high-resolution module is selected. This model was no exception. At the heart of the optics is a 13-megapixel matrix. It consists of 5 wide-angle lenses. Complemented by phase autofocus, which works quickly and efficiently. There is also a two-position flash.

The camera app has a clean and simple interface. In it, manufacturers have implemented a large number of possibilities. Among the settings you can find modes for creating panoramas, portraits, macro photography and more. It also allows you to adjust the white balance, change the exposure value, use the built-in QR scanner and much more.

At the end of the summer of 2016, the Chinese company Meizu introduced two new smartphones - U10 and U20. In general, they can be described as budget smartphones with pretty good hardware for this price category. Their main feature is an attractive and stylish design, with a metal and glass glossy body. This review is intended to break down the characteristics of the U10 model, which is cheaper and slightly smaller than its counterpart.

A smartphone with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory in Russia costs about $ 150, with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory - $ 170.

The design of this smartphone is very different from many other models in the Meizu line - the company has taken a new height in this regard, making the gadget look like Meizu X. The front and back panels of the device are completely covered with rounded 2.5D glass with a high-quality oleophobic coating. The metal frames here are rectangular and with bevelled edges.

The model is available in four colors: Black, White, Gold and Pink. Regardless of which color you choose (but in our humble opinion, the smartphone is especially chic in black), you will be pleased with the glossy mirrored panel, but be prepared for the fact that after some time of use you will see numerous fingerprints and footprints.

The control elements are located as standard, except for the headphone jack: the tray for SIM and micro-SD memory cards is on the left side, on the right side there is an on / off button and a volume rocker. There is nothing on the top edge, and at the bottom there is a micro-USB connector, a 3.5 mm audio output, a main microphone and a speaker.

There are no such familiar control buttons here - instead, under the display there is a mechanical universal key used as a navigator in working with the device and as a fingerprint scanner. The scanner does not work too fast, but in principle it is satisfactory.

Chipset

The device is equipped with an eight-core processor from MediaTek - 6750 with 2-cluster Cortex A53 cores with a maximum clock frequency of 1.5 GHz. Graphics accelerator - Mali T860. In the AnTuTu benchmark, the device scores from 31,000 to 40,000 points (the figure depends on the firmware version and the amount of RAM).

In real life, the gadget will cope well with everyday tasks - not bad at all for a smartphone in this price category. Almost any of the heavy 3D games will run, but we are not sure about whether it is at maximum settings. With heavy loads and always on LTE, the U10 smartphone does not heat up.

Memory

The phone is sold in two variations - 2 GB / 16 GB and 3 GB / 32 GB. Regarding RAM, the Meizu U10 32 gb smartphone will show slightly improved performance in toys, plus there is free memory for several tasks.

If you need more built-in memory, and plan to use two SIM-cards - take Meizu U10 32 gb black - the review showed that it would be better suited for this. But, in any case, you can put an additional memory card.

Battery

Compared to Meizu M3s, the battery capacity has been reduced - in this model it is only 2760 mAh instead of 3020 mAh. We think that in this way the manufacturer sought to reduce the thickness of the device - it decreased by 0.4 mm.

With an average load, the battery charge will last for a day, and in order to stretch the operating time to 24 hours, you will have to significantly save energy - reduce the brightness of the display, turn off LTE, do not play games, turn on power saving mode.

Camera

The U10 is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera with a 5-element f/2.2 lens, phase detection autofocus and 2-tone flash. The interface of the standard camera application is quite simple, but it has a lot of features embedded - there are many shooting modes (portrait, panorama, macro and others), a QR code scanner and much more. In addition, there is the ability to manually adjust the exposure, white balance, ISO, and more.

Photos taken in good daylight are very highly detailed, sharp and have excellent color reproduction with virtually no distortion. You can also create gif files and record Full HD videos at 30fps. There is a slow motion feature.

You can take high-quality selfies on the front camera - it has a resolution of 5 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.0. There are also many different filters here - even Instagram will envy.

Display

Meizu U10 has a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and a density of 296 ppi. The gadget produces a picture perfectly smooth, bright and beautiful, with the ability to adjust the color temperature. The display brightness at the maximum level is quite sufficient for comfortable work with the device even on a sunny day. The screen of the device, as already mentioned above, is covered with durable 2.5D glass with stylish beveled edges.

Sound

The U10 has the simplest budget speaker - nothing special. To hear an alarm clock, a notification or a call, this is quite enough. But in order to listen to music, you need a high-quality headset. Although we do not think that there is any problem with the sound in this device - how many people do you know who listen to music through the speakers of their smartphone?

operating system

Those smartphones that were released exclusively for the Chinese domestic device market came with an operating system called YunOS. In Russia, they are flashed with the standard firmware for all Meizu - Flyme OS version 5.2.3.0 based on Android. Most often, the seller himself installs the international firmware before the smartphone hits the counter, but almost every more or less advanced Russian user can reflash his gadget on his own.

The Flame shell basically works stably, has its own original interface and many advanced settings. In addition, this operating system regularly updated and improved.

Model Benefits

  • Nice and stylish design;
  • The presence of a fingerprint scanner;
  • Excellent quality display;
  • Good software part;
  • Perfectly catches the network and well receives any signal, incl. LTE;
  • Attractive price;
  • Great camera with great features.

Model Disadvantages

  • Hybrid slot for SIM-cards and memory cards;
  • Average battery capacity;
  • Due to the fact that there is glass on the back of the case, it can be difficult to repair.

This gadget is ideal for those who want to get a very stylish functional gadget with a 5-inch display for only $170. Also on the positive side is the stability of its work, feature rich software, good daytime photo quality and a great display. Here you can watch a video review of the Meizu U10 model.
