In the heart of the Alps, in northern Italy, on the border with Switzerland and Austria, there is one of the largest ski regions of the Italian Alps - Alta Valtellina. This ski area is part of Lombardy - a densely populated and economically developed region, which is famous for its rich history, magnificent nature, thermal springs and modern ski resorts with a wide selection of hotels and apartments of different categories.
Most of the territory of the Alta Valtellina region is occupied by the largest national park in Italy - Stelvio. Rare species of trees and animals are collected here, and there are more than fifty picturesque lakes. The name Alta Valtellina does not mean "high Valtellina" by chance - the mountains here reach 4000 m.
Ski centers of the region: popular resorts - Bormio, Livigno, Santa Caterina, and lesser known aprica, Madesimo, Monte Campioni. The resorts are famous for their well-groomed pistes, a modern network of lifts, and developed infrastructure.
The season runs from December to April. Livigno (1816m)
The dynamically developing resort is located near the Swiss border, 40 km from Bormio. This is a wide valley between two national parks (Italian Stelvio and Swiss Engadin). Livigno is one of the sunniest and windless ski resorts in Italy. Due to the height of the location in winter there is always a lot of snow.
Opposite slopes of Livigno - ski areas Carosello And Mottolino- spacious snowfields with medium-difficulty pistes and an almost unlimited choice of off-piste routes. At first glance, it seems that professionals in Livigno will get bored - there are few black tracks for them. But lovers of virgin lands will appreciate the snow fields of the Val Federa valley on the other side of the ridge of the Carosello zone. For lovers of night skiing, there are 2 illuminated slopes in the Campi Scuoli area (simple blue ones on the training slope), where demonstration performances of ski schools take place on Tuesdays, including the children's ski club "Lupigno", and on Thursdays everyone can ride.
