Bormio + Valdidentro. Santa Caterina. Livigno

In the heart of the Alps, in northern Italy, on the border with Switzerland and Austria, there is one of the largest ski regions of the Italian Alps - Alta Valtellina. This ski area is part of Lombardy - a densely populated and economically developed region, which is famous for its rich history, magnificent nature, thermal springs and modern ski resorts with a wide selection of hotels and apartments of different categories.

Most of the territory of the Alta Valtellina region is occupied by the largest national park in Italy - Stelvio. Rare species of trees and animals are collected here, and there are more than fifty picturesque lakes. The name Alta Valtellina does not mean "high Valtellina" by chance - the mountains here reach 4000 m.

Ski centers of the region: popular resorts - Bormio, Livigno, Santa Caterina, and lesser known aprica, Madesimo, Monte Campioni. The resorts are famous for their well-groomed pistes, a modern network of lifts, and developed infrastructure.

The season runs from December to April. The total length of the slopes of the region is 230 km (30% - blue, 52% - red, 17% - black), which are served by 57 lifts. 80 km of cross-country ski trails, including the territory of the Stelvio National Park. The resorts developed rapidly after the 1985 Alpine Skiing World Cup, for which roads with many kilometers of tunnels were built. Thanks to this, the road to Bormio goes along the motorway, and not along the serpentines, as to many other ski resorts.

Livigno (1816m)

The dynamically developing resort is located near the Swiss border, 40 km from Bormio. This is a wide valley between two national parks (Italian Stelvio and Swiss Engadin). Livigno is one of the sunniest and windless ski resorts in Italy. Due to the height of the location in winter there is always a lot of snow.

Opposite slopes of Livigno - ski areas Carosello And Mottolino- spacious snowfields with medium-difficulty pistes and an almost unlimited choice of off-piste routes. Livigno can challenge the unspoken title of the capital of snowboarders at the resort of Bardonecchia. There are always a lot of young people here, the resort has an active nightlife. Many trails descend into the town, and most hotels are within walking distance of the nearest ski lift. Therefore, this resort was chosen by families with children. Perhaps this is one of the best places where it will be easy to "put on skis" your baby.

One of the attractions of the resort is the Aquagranda Wellness Center, the hallmark of which is the large Black Pool. Another "highlight" is a large number of tax-free shops (Livigno is a duty-free zone).

skating

The resort is very sunny with good snow. A great place for snowboarders and freeride enthusiasts, as well as for beginners and families with children. Livigno has 100 km of pistes (38 blue, 57 red and 13 black) served by 26 lifts. There are 40 km of cross-country skiing trails and 2 snow parks with boarder cross tracks, 2 half-pipes, ski jumps, as well as a highlight - Boarder Zoo - a stylized fan zone with animal figures in the Carosello snow park.

on the slope Carosello- a lot of drag lifts serving the blue slopes. Here are the best conditions for beginner skiers, including children. Under the guidance of experienced instructors from one of the Livigno ski schools, beginners can move higher, to the Costaccia area, where there are fairly simple but long pistes. Two stages of the ascent of the Carosello telecabin rise to a height of 2797m, from where the red runs descend to Livigno and the village of Federia on the opposite side of the ridge.

Intermediate skiers will love the red runs Mottolino, from where from 2349 m you can go down to the opposite side of the ridge in the town of Trepalle or "with a breeze" go down back to Livigno along the red route "Mottolino" (length 1020m, elevation difference 565m). For lovers of simple trails, there is an alternative descent in Livigno - the blue trail "Degli Amati" (length 2315 m, elevation difference 420m).

At first glance, it seems that professionals in Livigno will get bored - there are few black tracks for them. But lovers of virgin lands will appreciate the snow fields of the Val Federa valley on the other side of the ridge of the Carosello zone. For lovers of night skiing, there are 2 illuminated slopes in the Campi Scuoli area (simple blue ones on the training slope), where demonstration performances of ski schools take place on Tuesdays, including the children's ski club "Lupigno", and on Thursdays everyone can ride.

April ski. Sports and entertainment

The resort is also famous for its cheerful, relaxed atmosphere, which attracts young people here. There are endless parties and concerts with the participation of famous performers, more than 100 restaurants, bars, cafes, night clubs, bowling and bridge clubs, discos, game salons, cinemas. Local pizzerias serve delicious Italian pizza.

About a hundred hotels and apartments of the middle price group have been built in the resort. There are also several comfortable four-star hotels.

Of the local attractions, it will be interesting for curious tourists to see several memorials and visit two churches - San Rocco, built in the early 16th century to protect the city from pestilence, and St. Mary, erected in the 19th century on the site of an ancient temple and completely copying it. Also from Livigno you can send on excursions to Milan, Tirano, Venice.

The resort is also known for the fact that artists, sculptors, writers, musicians, and actors live here. Often they arrange collective exhibitions of paintings, photographs and other art objects.

About Livigno, we can say that this is one of the most attractive resorts in Italy, where you can not only go in for sports, but also relax, plunging into a light and unique atmosphere of relaxation and fun.
