When will Yandex be upgraded. Search engine updates Yandex and Google. Updating the Yandex search database: how often does this happen

Hello everyone!

“What are updates search engines(PS)?” - a question that arises for all, without exception, beginners in SEO. Today I would like to give a full and clear answer to it. Even though I should have done it a few months ago.

First, let's deal with the word "update". This word is a transliteration of the English “update”, which means “updating something.” It is used in almost all areas of our lives - let's say you have an iPhone 6, you receive a notification that such and such an update for iOS has been released and you need to install it. By installing this very update, you will update operating system. The same analogy can be drawn with computers.

If you look at the word “update” from the side of SEO, we can see that it is used only to indicate the update of search results and ranking data of sites. In fact, a search engine update is an update of the PS databases, that is, an index.

What are updates for?

In order for some new page on your site to be shown in the search, it needs to get into the index - the PS database. Pages get into the index only after they are crawled by a search robot, but not the pages themselves, but their saved copies get there. Simply put, the robot remembers them.

Once a page is indexed, it is assigned a specific position. This is done on the basis of the work of various algorithms known only to their developers. Algorithms, in turn, analyze the quality factors of the page:

  • behavioral;
  • Reference;
  • Relevance of the page to the query;
  • Text quality and spam ();
  • And others.

Considering all these factors together, the algorithms give a score to the page, on the basis of which the position is assigned. The higher the score, the higher your position in the search results. However, quality assessment is carried out not only for new pages, but also for those who are already in the index.

The search robot scans the pages included in the PS database with enviable regularity. Therefore, if you have made any significant changes, let's say, to the content (rewritten the text), a re-evaluation will occur.

Reassessment of the quality factors of pages occurs after a certain period of time, after which an update occurs. Therefore, positions in the SERP are constantly changing and that is why every webmaster needs to know this.

Types of search engine updates

So, each search engine has some of its own characteristics, differences, and this also applies to updates. So, for example, in Yandex there are three types of updates:

  • Search results update;
  • Update of the thematic citation index (TCI). Read about how the TCI is formed;
  • Update in Yandex.Catalogue.

In Google, I only know two: SERP update and PageRank(). Moreover, updating the search results here is very different from Yandex. The fact is that in Google permanent issuance is constantly changing. Roughly speaking, the update occurs several times a day. Whereas in Yandex, updates occur 2-3 times a week.

In addition, updating the search results of the Russian search engine has several more types of updates:

  1. Text update. A text index is laid out - new pages with text, and already indexed documents are updated. Meta tags also fall under the update. Period: from 1 day to 10 (sometimes more);
  2. Link update. External links from the posted saved copy are taken into account. During this update, new links to your resource from other sites are taken into account;
  3. Update of behavioral factors. Updating the issue taking into account data on user behavior on sites. Read more about the influence of behavioral factors on ranking written. Occurs about once every six months;
  4. Image database update. During this update, images from sites are uploaded to the index;
  5. Favicon update. The site icon appears or changes in Yandex search results.

This is how everything is complicated in Yandex. Even well-known SEO forums have separate branches dedicated to the ups of the Russian search engine. It is worth noting that there is a very heated discussion of the results of the update, as well as the impact of certain measures taken to optimize the site.

How to track Yandex updates?

To track Yandex updates, you can use both third-party services, for example, Cy-Pr or tools.promosite.ru, and Yandex services, namely. All you need to do is sign up for email updates. You can do this in the service settings:

As for position tracking, I recommend using Allpositions.ru. Here in this article I described in detail the work with this tool, read it. It also allows you to track search engine updates right on the main page:

Well, that's all for me, dear friends!

Any SEO specialist will tell you that he is never bored. Even if today the site has reached the heights in the search results, tomorrow it can easily take off from there. And the ill-fated Yandex updates are to blame!

Search engine updates

According to many experts in the field of SEO, website promotion in search engines is like an eternal, never ending "fun starts". Even on holidays, when all people have a rest, these "inhuman" search engines constantly update the ranking results.

Therefore, tired SEO specialists and owners of Internet resources have to not sleep, but “pray” to the great search engine so that it does not throw their sites from the top of the issue. All this happens thanks to Yandex updates:

An update in SEO is usually understood as updating the databases of a search engine by including new elements in it ( new or updated web pages). This leads not only to the addition, but also to the “re-sorting” of resources in the search results. That is, the search engine cache is updated. It is thanks to this that the results of site indexing change.

That is, if today your site was in the top ten search results, then after updating the search engine, it can fly out of there.

Search robots constantly “wool” the Internet in search of new and updated sites or pages. They fix all new elements and changes in old ones in their cache. Then, at some point, the database of the search engine is updated and, as a result, the next ranking.

Items that are updated:

  • New links;
  • New content (text);
  • Changes on already indexed pages.

Features of the update in Yandex

Google updates are frequent, and therefore are not something unexpected. The situation with updating the Yandex database is much more complicated. When updating this search engine, several parameters are taken into account at once.

That's why " search engine update» can be divided into several phases:

  • Updating data about the text content of web pages - this stage is called a text update;
  • Updating data on link content - all new links and updates to old ones that are located on the pages of indexed sites are taken into account.

Most often, both update phases ( text and link update) occur at the same time. But this does not mean that the article posted last night will be included in the search results today. Everything is a little more complicated. According to statistics, the period between two Yandex updates is from 3 to 10 days.

But such restrictions are not imposed on all types of Internet resources. Yandex databases related to news resources and blogs are updated daily. As well as all those sites that often post new materials and comment. The rest of the resources can only wait for the next global update.

Other types of Yandex updates

  • Update issuance - updating the results of the search engine issuance. That is, there is a change in the positions of sites. It is the final step in the ranking process. The issuance update occurs after the search robot has collected all the data about new and changed links, the text content of the resources, and entered it into the search engine database. Based on this information, a list of search results is formed, which is issued in response to a user request. The list is updated infrequently on average once a month). But it is impossible to predict its exact date.

The term “storm” is used to indicate the degree of change that has occurred in the search results. It shows the degree of change in search results as a percentage relative to the previous list. A search update of 25-40% is considered strong.

If the storm indicators exceed 40%, then we can talk about a change in the algorithm for generating a list of search results (ranking).

  • Update of the thematic citation index (TIC) is the most long-awaited for those who make money on the sale of links. There is a "re-evaluation" of thematic links that lead to your resource. Behind the scenes, the TIC update is divided into two stages: push-button and toolbar.

By push-button, they mean changing the TIC indicators on the citation index button from Yandex. It is the most accurate and occurs first:

The TIC toolbar update is a change in the parameter readings in the browser toolbar from Yandex. It comes later than the button update.

In Google, the analogue of the TIC is PageRank ( PR). But unlike the TIC, PR is updated much less frequently. Therefore, it does not show the popularity of the resource (web page) in real time, not quite accurately.

When will Yandex make the next update?

After the first update, Yandex remembers the new content. If after the second one there were no serious changes in it, then the text gets into the search results. The speed of a text update is also affected by the volume of new material and the complexity of the structure of a particular site.

The larger the volume of new materials and the more complex the structure of building a particular resource, the longer the reindexing process will take.

The situation with the prediction of the next TIC update is a little easier. It is assumed that the value of the total TIC of all resources in Yandex is an exact value, and almost does not change. Therefore, when updating the TIC, only its redistribution takes place. It happens 1-2 times in 30-60 days.

As you can see, no one can say exactly when Yandex will make the next update. But presumably this can be predicted by analyzing the dates of previous updates. To do this, you can use specialized services:

  • seobudget.ru - the exact dates of Yandex updates for previous periods are presented in the form of a table on the site. And below are the dates of the proposed updates for the two most popular search engines at once:
  • tools.promosite.ru is another service. It features a large amount of analytical data on updates presented in the form of graphs. In addition, this resource boasts the most accurate system for informing about Yandex updates. The check occurs every 3 minutes!

Using these update analyzers, you can approximately predict when Yasha will storm next time. And at least somehow prepare for this, even if only mentally.

TIC updates are like an earthquake in seismically active regions. Everyone knows that this happens regularly. Everyone has long been accustomed to any consequences and can predict with a high degree of probability the time and factors influencing this process. And still, every time the Yandex TCI update causes confusion, joy, disappointment, heated discussions, discussions and quarrels among optimizers - in general, the whole gamut of human feelings. Let's see why.

TIC - litmus test due to the lack of analogues

It just so happened that the TIC is the main clearly visualized indicator of the authority of the site in the eyes of Yandex. In view of the fact that the latter is the leader of the CIS search market, its attitude to the site often becomes the determining factor in assessing the success of promoting this site. Of course, experienced specialists in their assessments rely on many other aspects, but for a person who is not too versed in the intricacies of SEO, the situation is quite trivial: the higher the thematic citation index, the better the site. To some extent this is true, to some extent it is a delusion, but you can read more about this in a special material on TIC. In the context of the topic under discussion, it becomes obvious why many optimizers are so reverent about updating this indicator: each update of the TIC is for their customers that very kind of litmus test. Who wants to paint it in an unfortunate color?

What is good for the buyer is death for the seller

Any market needs criteria for evaluating goods and services in order to determine different niches, price levels, etc. The market for buying and selling text links for search engine promotion is by no means an exception. Update Yandex TCI - a time of worries and confusion in the ranks of link merchants of all stripes. If the update brought an increase in performance, you should expect an increase in prices for links from a lucky owner. The reaction to a decreased TCI is more reluctant and prolonged.

Ordinary TIC updates do not have a big impact on the market. Large players generally do not notice such fluctuations within one or two dozen points. The worries of little-known webmasters, as a rule, are offset by an increase in positions for the next update. However, sometimes Yandex surprises the market in the form of a massive change in TCI sites down. Some experts attribute this to the automatic filtering of a large array of "wrong" sites (for example, an update in 2006, in which a large number of sites lost up to 50% or more in the TIC, is often explained by a filter introduced against the so-called "linkers"), while others believe that in this way Yandex reminds the community that it holds the levers of market control in its hands.

The main thing after the update of the Yandex TIC is to remain calm

Recently, search engines (especially Yandex) are not distinguished by the stability of their algorithms and quiet work without constant changes in the rules of the game for optimizers. Professionals are already accustomed to such time pressures, and even the most unsuccessful TCI update is perceived philosophically: one way or another, any changes will also affect competitors, which means that the task is to quickly respond to changes and make appropriate adjustments to the algorithms for promoting client sites. When customers themselves understand this, business relationships continue for a long time and are beneficial for all participants.

P.S. You understood everything correctly: this is exactly what they do in Demis Group - calmly, thoughtfully, without haste and nerves.

Yaroslav SHAKULA, Demis Group

Hello dear site visitors. Probably, everyone who takes the first steps as a webmaster will recognize the mysterious words in their native runet, updating Yandex search results. You may ask, what, does this only apply to Runet?

I answer, yes, only his own. The fact is that the global search giant Google does not have this at all. No, he, of course, also updates, but his algorithms do this all the time, so to speak, almost online.

Yandex, for some reason, updates periodically, and not only issuance, but also TIC ups (an abbreviation that stands for thematic citation index). This indicator determines the degree of trust (trust) of the search engine to a particular Internet resource (at least I would like to believe in it).

In addition to search engines, site owners who offer links for sale pay attention to the TIC, since the higher this index for a site, the higher the price you can get for a link.

What is Yandex search database update

Yandex generally likes to keep itself waiting. In addition to the search up in Runet, there is also an up of pictures, a catalog, and even favicons. Of course, not everyone and not all the time follow updates of this kind, although sometimes they are useful. Let's say when you changed the favicon image or your main traffic comes from image search.

So, let's talk about updating the Yandex search database. How often does this happen? How can you tell if an update has already happened? And, after all, why do we need to know? These or similar questions are asked by all young webmasters who have embarked on the thorny path of optimizing sites for promotion in Yandex. And this is in the order of things, everyone goes through this stage.

The reason for the need for updates at Yandex is quite prosaic. Compared to its overseas counterpart, our Runet search engine does not have a hardware and technical base of sufficient power that would allow updating search databases at least a couple of times a day, taking into account all re-indexed pages and detected incoming links. It is precisely because of this that he is forced to cheat, thereby reducing the load on the server part.

And what then does the Yandex search robot do on the site every day? What it should do is collect data for the index, that is, look for new pages and incoming links, update information about existing ones. But he does not let all this "into business" at once, but simply diligently writes down in a secluded place.

And at certain intervals (several days, sometimes several tens), they give the accumulated information for search results. That's when the Yandex search database is updated. By the way, you can see for yourself the frequency of this sacred event by looking at the dates of the official updates:

A reasonable question arises, what do we get between these updates? Everything is very simple - it's a cache.

If we explain this very simply, then the search results algorithm determines the list of the most relevant pages for a query only once between ups, after this query has been entered after the next update of the database.

And this result (list) is immediately cached so that later, when this request is entered, it can be retrieved and shown to users. Such operations greatly facilitate the work of Yandex servers and make it possible to keep the brand in front of the world search bigwig, Google, even without such powerful hardware.

At the next update, taking into account all the data about pages and links pointing to them, collected by robots after the previous up, a new list of page rankings for each request will be compiled, and again it will go into the cache so that everyone can get a quick response.

Naturally, the process described above is greatly simplified. About a dozen years ago, I think it was more like reality. For about two years, Yandex has been using personalized search results.

Thanks to it, users who have a large but different search history receive a different list of results in response to the same queries. And to date, this approach is increasingly beginning to prevail and be applied.

However, if more than ten percent of search queries have a changed result, it's safe to say that an update has occurred. How can you tell when this happened? Let's talk about this a little later, but now a few words about what is a TIC update?

Well, we don't have to rack our brains with this one. There is an opinion that the sum of the citation indices of all sites in the Yandex index is a constant value, and site indices change by subtracting from some and adding this indicator to others. This update occurs even less often than the search base (period from 20 to 50 days).

Below you can evaluate the frequency (or rather, its absence) of the latest TIC ups:

What affects the Yandex TIC? This is the number, and most importantly, a qualitative indicator of links entering your site from other resources that are related (to the taste of the search engine) with yours in terms of thematic content.

As in the case of indexing, the analysis of such links occurs permanently, but the TIC itself, in general, remains unchanged between updates of its values. In exceptional cases, however, it can be changed in a negative direction in the form of punishment.

And then, after the update, the index abruptly changes its value (or not, as the algorithm smiles at anyone), and freezes again until the next up.

More about the types of Yandex updates

Yandex has another index, which, by the way, it recalculates instantly, online. This is the WCI (Weighted Citation Index). But, unfortunately, the data of this index is not available to the uninitiated, or rather, to ordinary users. Similarly, the constantly changing value of Google's toolbar PageRank, which can also be seen after updates, is also inaccessible to the uninitiated.

However, there is an opinion that this indicator of the Google search engine is no longer as strong as it used to be. Indirect confirmation of this is the fact that last update Page Ranka took place about a year ago. You can see for yourself the negative dynamics of the frequency of these ups:

Let's go back to Yandex, or rather, to those Yandex updates that webmasters periodically monitor as necessary:

1. Update Yandex.Catalog. This most significant catalog of the Russian segment of the Internet, when updated, adds data on new resources or deletes those that have fallen in his eyes. Therefore, it is important for webmasters who are waiting for one of these events to monitor and verify these updates.

2. Update favicons. Unlike the search results of Google, Yandex, to the left of the snippet, also shows the favicon, the image-emblem of the site. However, it does not show this image immediately after the site is indexed and the search results are updated or the favicon is replaced by you, but only after the favicon is updated on Yandex.

3. Update of the search database of pictures. The pictures on the pages of Internet resources are monitored by a special Yandex robot. And the image database in Yandex is also updated periodically, so if you receive or plan to receive a significant share of traffic through images, you should monitor these updates in order to be able to control your own actions.

4. Update mirrors. A separate Yandex robot is working on what controls the merging (gluing) of site mirrors. For example, two URL addresses - www.site.rf and site.rf - are mirrors that need to be glued together, and be sure to use a 301 redirect, in the robots.txt file or in the Yandex Webmaster panel.

There are situations when it is necessary to change the domain, for example, after falling under a search filter. Then you should register a new main mirror on both the new and the old domain and duplicate it in the Yandex webmaster. But even after that, for the search engine, the mirrors will become one only after the mirror update.

I also want to tell you that the update of the Yandex search database is not one-time in all areas, but is thematic in nature:

  1. Link update - data on the indexing of links entering the sites come into force.
  2. Text update - similar actions, only concerning the indexing of the text content of pages.
  3. Behavioral factors update. Data on user behavior on indexed sites is also updated at certain intervals.
  4. Search algorithm update. If they are not afraid of this update, then all webmasters and website promotion specialists are afraid. This is an update of the very approach in ranking, that is, in determining the level of relevance. This is a change in the algorithm for analyzing data received by other Yandex robots and in the principle of generating the final search results list.

As a rule, the Yandex search database is updated in the following order: first there is a text update, followed by a link update. Behavior data is updated without any sequence. You can see this for yourself by looking at the latest update data in the figure below:

I would like to note that you should not get hung up on updates and frantically wait for the next up, the main thing in the work of a webmaster is to check the position of the site (there are enough similar resources to check on the network) and analyze the changes.

And it should also be taken into account that Yandex search is inherently inert, and the result of one update is not a sentence yet, it’s better to wait for another one or two to draw some global conclusions.

How to track Yandex updates

After reading what I wrote above, you probably want to ask a question, how to track Yandex updates? As you may have guessed, there are such ways, I will even say more - there are several of them.

First, you can subscribe to a newsletter from Yandex itself. This becomes available after you have added your project to the Yandex.Webmaster tool. To do this, in the settings item "Types of messages" put a mark on forwarding to e-mail opposite the types "Global" and "Update search database".

I generally recommend that all messages in the list be sent to the mail. They do not appear too often to litter the box, and you will always be aware of all events.

I would like to note that messages from Yandex about updating search results occur after the issue calms down after the update, and you get the opportunity to calmly determine your current positions and analyze whether it turned out to be good for your resource or bad.

There are other ways to get information about Yandex updates. For example, the popular website Seobuget places on its pages a tool called "Yandex and Google Accurate Updates", which not only shows the TIC and SERPs that have already taken place, but also gives predictions about the release dates of new ones:

Here you can also subscribe to the newsletter in order to receive timely information about updating (optionally) various databases. In addition to the subscription e-mail, you can choose to send SMS. Its current cost is 5 rubles. Registration is required to be able to post on this site.

To always keep abreast of new updates and tell your site visitors about them, you can add an informer from the above resource, the code of which can be found under the mailing form, of the following form:

If you do not want to place alien code on your site, you can use the service of Yandex itself and place a thematic widget on its main page.

There are other resources on the Internet that monitor Yandex and Google updates. For example, a site like Pr-Cy contains an "Updates" tool, informing in the form of a calendar the latest changes in indexes, issuance, etc.

This resource, in addition to the calendar, also offers to add your widget to the main page of the same Yandex or an informer for visitors to the pages of your site.

An informer containing such interesting information as data on behavioral factors can be easily obtained by looking at the Movebo website.

To independently monitor the change in the Yandex thematic citation index (TIC) and report this indicator to visitors to your resource, you can put a button on your site stylized as a banknote.

You can get the installation code on the Yandex website.

It will be very convenient, useful and informative, as I think, to visit and discuss Yandex updates on thematic SEO forums. I think most will agree with me that one of the most convenient and popular sites is the searchengines.guru forum.

It has a separate section on Yandex updates, and a subscription to new materials that will be published there is available.

As in any other forum, its members gather from all over the Internet and actively discuss information about the promotion. And in the above section, you will also find a lot of interesting things about past and upcoming updates of the issuance, TIC, images, learn different opinions, stories, and also talk about your sorrows and joys.
