Structure and content of the Program

The Program is based on the view of IT as a strategic asset of an enterprise, serving to create fundamentally new opportunities to meet consumer requirements, creating the basis for a whole range of competitive advantages and ultimately transforming the organization's activities.

The GSBI program develops a system of practical competencies for high-level IT managers, up to CIO, in particular, strategic and cost thinking, the ability to evaluate corporate strategic decisions from an IT point of view, the skills of strategic interaction with top management, the ability to organize, control and improve IT activities - subdivisions, the ability to formulate and justify the need for investment in IT.

For students engaged in entrepreneurial activities, or planning such an opportunity for themselves, the formed competencies include, along with general managerial competencies, such competencies as analysis and selection of elements of the organizational design of an IT company, organization and evaluation of the effectiveness of its main business processes, IT economics - companies, interaction with consumers, suppliers, partners and other subjects of the IT market.

The formation of these competencies takes place in the process of studying a balanced system of mutually agreed disciplines consisting of two blocks studied in parallel: a general managerial block and an IT management block. The first block includes, in particular, such disciplines as corporate strategic management, strategic marketing and brand management, business transformation management (including mergers and acquisitions, modern integration solutions and the formation of "extended enterprises"), strategic financial analysis (including evaluation and management business value and financial risk management), strategic human resource management, strategic knowledge and innovation management.

The second block includes the basics of organizational design and process management in an IT organization, formal assessment and improvement of IT processes, strategic and operational management of an IT organization, management of relationships between an IT service and business, management of subcontracting, outsourcing and partnership in IT, IT economics projects, information security and others. In the second block, a number of modern foreign original techniques are studied.

The VSBI MBA-IT program has several features:

  • The program provides for the parallel study of a block of business disciplines and a block of IT management. The disciplines of specialization in IT are not read as a separate block at the end of the program, but are a logical continuation of the basic disciplines, thus confirming the connection between ICT and business. This reflects a view of IT as the most important strategic asset of the enterprise, and not as a service, supporting technology.
  • The program has a clear practical focus. Students are regularly encouraged to try to apply what they have just learned to real-world problems in their main job. The results obtained are discussed in the classroom and serve as the basis for the subsequent individual work of the teacher with a particular student.
  • Individual approach to listeners. GSBI students have different education, occupy different positions and work in different sectors of the economy. Therefore, teachers take into account the individual needs of each student in the educational process, organizing this process in the most flexible way.
  • An important component of training is a problem seminar. A problematic seminar is a discussion platform where students, with the participation of teachers, discuss real tasks and problems that students have encountered in their work. The goals of the seminar are to promote the exchange of real experience, to develop the skills of presentation, substantiation and defense of their decisions, to clearly demonstrate how the knowledge gained at GSBI can be applied in practice. The teacher at the seminar plays the role of a moderator of the discussion, and formulates a consolidated opinion of the audience on the problem considered.

Our Students and Alumni

Statistics show that GSBI students are young, ambitious IT professionals, middle managers and start-up entrepreneurs who are interested in improving their level of knowledge and using modern methods and approaches to solve management problems in IT.

After graduating from HSBI, most of them finally choose a managerial career for themselves. A small but stable part of graduates prefer to start their own business and organize start-up companies in the field of IT.

GSBI maintains regular formal and informal contacts with its alumni. Recently, GSBI graduates have been actively involved in studying proccess, participate as invited experts in the defense of graduation theses.
