Method 5: Export bookmarks
In cases where you plan to switch from Google Chrome to any other browser, but do not want to lose previously bookmarked sites, the export function will help. Turning to it, you can easily “move”, for example, to Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or even to the standard Windows browser Microsoft Edge.

- A shortcut to the site you saved will appear on the Windows desktop, which can be launched by double-clicking. By default, it will open in a new browser tab, but this can be changed.
- On the bookmarks bar, click the button "Applications"(previously called "Services").

For Google Chrome (as for the most popular browser, although I don’t use it), I think it’s worth telling you not only how to save bookmarks in it, but also how to make sure that the bookmarks are synchronized between all your computers.
In fact, everything is simple. Save bookmarks in a separate file and hide it away in a safe place. When you need it - load it into Chrome - there is nothing supernatural here. Of course, it is worth doing this, despite the possibility of synchronization. Well, now let's look at everything in order.
By the way, in this note, the Goggle Chrome browser version 36 was used. So, click on the settings (three lines in the upper right corner), Bookmarks, Bookmark Manager (This whole combination can be replaced with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + O)
Click on the "Organize" button and select the line "Export bookmarks to HTML file ..."
A save form will open. Here we need to come up with a file name with future bookmarks (we are offered a bookmark and today's date - it suits me perfectly) and choose a place where to save it. I'll save it to documents, but you'd better save it to an external drive (for example, a USB flash drive).
We save and check - is our bookmark file in place?
Everything is in order, the file is exactly there - where we saved it. And what's next? - you ask. It’s even easier to do the same thing, only in reverse order. We load not into a file, but from it. We also stomp into Settings, Bookmarks, Bookmark Manager and select the item "Import bookmarks from HTML file ..."
In the form that opens, select the previously prepared file with the bookmarks we have saved and click "Open".
We wait a few seconds and voila - all your bookmarks are in place, however this is not the most convenient option, but the most reliable one!
How to sync bookmarks in Google Chrome?
If you need to save bookmarks only in order to later view them elsewhere, then it makes sense to set up synchronization. What will it give? - You will have one browser for several jobs. Here you have a computer at home, and there is at work. We added the page to bookmarks at home - and this bookmark appeared at work. In general, very comfortable - I recommend!
So how do you implement it? Everything in the world is simple! We go to "Settings" and select the item "Sign in to Chrome ..." (Do you have a Gmail account? If not, then register here)
Enter a name account and your password.

AT Windows XP Google Chrome browser stores its settings in this path: С:\Documents and Settings\your_account_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\ User Data
AT Windows 7 the path to the settings is: С:\Users\your_account_name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data
Note, that the Local Settings folder with all its subfolders is hidden. To see them, you need to configure the display of hidden files and folders.
So, now we go directly to saving all settings and bookmarks. To do this, we will archive the folder where all the settings and bookmarks of the Google Chrome browser are stored, that is, we will create an archive. This is how saving settings works in Windows 7 (it will be similar in other operating systems e.g. Windows XP)
Open the HaoZip archiver (you can use another archiver):
Now open the Users folder, then the folder with the name of your account, and then open the folders with these names in order: AppData\Local\Google\Chrome. The result will be like this:
There are two folders here. Settings are stored in the User Data folder. Here it needs to be archived. Click on the "Add" button
Click on the "Browse" button and specify the folder where the archive will be stored, in other words, a backup copy of all the settings of our browser. We can select any folder, preferably not on the drive that Windows is installed. We will save this archive to drive E. Screenshot:

Now we press "OK". HaoZip will archive your Google Chrome settings. So, now we have a copy of the folder where all Google Chrome settings and bookmarks are stored.
Note: you may want to just copy the User Date folder without creating an archive. In this case, there may be errors when copying. It will be more reliable if you create an archive.
Now we can restore all settings and bookmarks of Google Chrome. To do this, open HaoZip and find the archive we created. Screenshot:

In the right part of the window, select the folder where the Google Chrome settings are stored and which we previously archived. As you already know, this folder is called User Date.
Note, that in Windows 7 the "Users" and "Users" folder is the same folder. Therefore, if you use the standard Windows 7 Explorer to navigate through folders, then the path to the settings will not be C:\Users\your_account_name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data, but C:\Users\your_account_name\AppData\Local\ Google\Chrome\User Data. As you can see, the name "Users" is changed to "Users". That's the whole difference.
Here is the result:
We have selected the User Date folder and click "OK" to extract the contents of the archive there. After the extraction of files is completed, all settings and bookmarks will be restored.

Therefore, I will describe the method of saving bookmarks using the Google Chrome browser as an example.
Bookmarks are saved easily and quickly. The main thing is to force yourself to do it, at least once every six months. I know from my own experience that lack of time and laziness often take precedence over reason. But how much easier life is acquired by the acquired habit of saving and duplicating everything.
So, let's start creating a backup file for Google Chrome bookmarks. To do this, go to the upper right corner of the browser, click on the three horizontal stripes, and select the link in the drop-down list Bookmarks - Bookmark Manager.
After that, we get to the Bookmark Manager, where we need to click on the small black arrow to the right of the entry Control.
At the very bottom of the list that opens, select the link Export bookmarks to fileHTML, and click on it. You should see a window to save the file. I chose a save location Desktop and pressed the button Save.
You can now drag or copy this file to a safe location. If you reinstall your system or browser, then this file can be downloaded in the same way as we did the download. List only Control, you will need to click on the Import bookmarks from HTML file link.
After that, restart your browser (exit google chrome and back in), and all your bookmarks will appear again.
